Katherine Hunt, MD, FAAD

Dr. Hunt is a board-certified dermatologist and fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, specializing in a broad range of dermatologic care for all ages.

 

Her specialties are:

  • Skin cancer

  • Patients with compromised immune systems

  • Undetectable cosmetic dermatology

  • Rashes


Dr. Hunt grew up in Hoover, Alabama and attended Hoover High School. She started her career in business and engineering at the University of Alabama. As an undergraduate, she gained national attention and was named "USA Today National Academic All-Star" for creating a self-sustaining peer mentoring program which measurably improved students' computer science performance at Alabama. Her extensive work experience at Huron Consulting Group and GE Healthcare helped her realize that she would be most fulfilled in the field of medicine, helping patients one-on-one.

 
Dr. Hunt completed her medical education and dermatology residency at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). She served as chief resident during her final year.  As an assistant professor, Dr. Hunt earned one of the highest patient satisfaction scores for the entire UAB system (100%). She continues to see immunocompromised patients at UAB every week.


Fun facts about Dr. Hunt:

  • She co-authors the "Fungal Diseases" chapter of the premier dermatology textbook, Bolognia Dermatology

  • Dr. Hunt's parents are retired teachers

  • She races in triathlons and plays board games for fun

  • Her husband is a former swimming Olympian and they have four children

  • Dr. Hunt gives lectures and writes publications on immunocompromised populations

  • Her great-great-uncle, Italo Marchiony, invented the ice cream cone in 1903​
